Character Brief - Nathon Gunn Nathon Gunn (age: mid-40s, appears early 30s due to widespread use of genetically-engineered health adjustment in commercial products.) Freelance "fixer"--part investigator, part tracker, part professional hardass. Shooter of one person's troubles. Maker of someone else's. Gunn will take on almost any job no one else wants, short of murder, so long as you can afford him. He is remarkably good at expediting these jobs, so long as no one expects him to play by their rules--which doesn't mean he has none of his own. Gunn's father, Dylan, was a soldier involved in experimental units. What he was doing was never discussed, but his brand of professional hardass makes his son's look soft. He requested a transfer to a liaison post in Lago Sucio after Gunn's mother died from an outbreak of re-engineered cholera released in a military conflict in The Wastelands. Dylan resigned 2 years later for medical reasons and worked as a security consultant to the city of Lago Sucio and GenoSynthesis. His connections within the city were powerful, but he eventually dropped from sight under strange circumstances and is presumed dead. Gunn's mother, Rina, was a civilian teacher. Gunn was 15 when she died. He was her third pregnancy, but the only baby to make it. She poured her own love of knowledge--hard won after the collapse of information systems in The Fall--into her son from birth. He did not complete college or any formal education beyond the High School level, but he taught himself and sought out more from other sources. He only plays dumb. He learned a lot from his father, as well. As a teenager in Lago Sucio, enduring the economic disaster which the locals called "the hard scrabble," he adopted a street-smart pragmatism and took on any job he could get. Most were undocumented, shady, dangerous, even mildly criminal. He got a reputation for "fixing" problems in innovative ways and was looked upon by his peers as a smart badass. No serious offenses or incidents were recorded by Civil Enforcement ("Civil"). At age 22, he joined Civil as an investigating officer. Perhaps a case of "set a thief to catch a thief," but a good one. A bit of a maverick, but effective and successful, no complaints, charges or fees appear on his record. He quit at age 36 when Civil was reorganized under Lago Sucio's New Charter and Civil was reorganized to shift protective and private property issues to Private Security units ("Priv Sec"). He is still on good terms with a lot of people at Civil, though there have been rumors about why he quit. His relationship with Priv Sec is less pleasant. Since leaving Civil, he has remained uncontracted--one of the few Free Citizens of Lago Sucio not under contract to someone or some company. He is self-employed as a Troubleshooter, Fixer, Investigator, and Tracker. He continues to evade major charges or fines, though there is little doubt that his methods include violence, intimidation, and property damage when necessary.
